About Me

From Italy to Romania — A Journey of Two Decades

My name is Mauro, and I’ve spent the last 20 years living, working, and evolving in Romania. What started as a move driven by necessity became a transformative experience — one that shaped me not only as a professional but also as a human being.

Originally from Italy, I arrived in Romania with no connections, no resources, and no clear roadmap. I had to rebuild everything from scratch: a career, a network, and a sense of belonging. The road wasn’t always smooth — there were setbacks, cultural shocks, bureaucratic battles, and moments of doubt. But there were also discoveries, friendships, personal growth, and a deep connection to a country that welcomed me in its own complex way.

Why This Blog

This blog is a space where I share:

  • Personal reflections from 20+ years of life in Romania
  • Practical advice for foreigners navigating immigration, residence, and legal processes
  • Hard-earned lessons about adapting, working, and thriving as an expat here
  • Cultural observations from the viewpoint of someone who knows what it means to start over

Whether you’re planning to move to Romania, have just arrived, or have been living here for a while, I hope my stories and insights will help you avoid common mistakes, feel less alone, and better understand how things really work on the ground.

A Bit About My Work

Professionally, I’m an IT consultant and entrepreneur, running Application Engineering Srl, my own company. I work with Romanian and European partners on software and digital infrastructure projects — but this blog is a personal initiative, born out of a desire to give back and support others who are trying to change their lives, just like I once did.
